Planning a Trip to Georgia
Practical answers for planning a calmer Georgia trip: timing, transport, currency, food, families and the first day.
What is the best time to visit Georgia?
For a first visit, spring and autumn are usually calmer and easier. Summer suits Batumi, seaside and green mountains. Winter suits snow, Gudauri and Bakuriani. We choose the season by trip style, not by month name alone.
How many days are enough for a first Georgia trip?
Five to seven days usually gives a balanced trip across Tbilisi, Kakheti or Mtskheta, and possibly mountains or Batumi depending on season. Shorter trips work, but the itinerary should not become more transfers than experience.
Do I need a private car or can I use public transport?
Inside Tbilisi, taxis, apps and metro work well for many visitors. Outside the city, a private car or local driver is usually more comfortable, especially for families, mountains and routes where road conditions can change.
Is Batumi good all year?
Batumi is beautiful, but its value changes by season. Summer brings the seaside mood, spring and autumn are nicer for walking and photos, while winter can be quieter and wetter. We do not add Batumi to every itinerary the same way.
How much daily budget do I need in Georgia?
Budget depends on hotel level, transport style and number of cities. Practically, we calculate accommodation and transport first, then food, tickets and small spending. One number for everyone is not honest because a family trip is not the same as a couple trip.
Should I use cash or card?
Use both. Cards are convenient in hotels, restaurants and larger shops, while cash helps in markets, villages, taxis and small experiences. Avoid exchanging the whole amount at the airport unless you only need a small first-day amount.
Is Georgian food suitable for families and Arab travelers?
Yes, with careful choices. Georgian cuisine has bread, cheese, grilled dishes, salads and warm comfort food. If halal matters, restaurants should be checked clearly instead of relying on names or appearance.
What should I prepare first before traveling?
Start with passport, entry or visa path, accommodation, insurance, weather and airport arrival plan. Then build the itinerary. A beautiful plan does not help if the arrival day is exhausting or documents are unclear.
Is Georgia suitable for children?
Yes, if the plan is calmer than a young-adult itinerary. With children, reduce long road hours, choose well-located hotels and leave time to rest. Old towns, parks, lakes and lighter mountain routes work nicely for families.
Do I need a ready package or a custom itinerary?
A ready package is a good starting point, but it should be adjusted by season, group size, age, budget and trip purpose. At Orient Cities, we treat the itinerary as a working plan, not a rigid template.
