Program Overview

The goal of the program is to support the effective functioning of the health system through the training of qualified and highly competent nurses. This program, offering integrated theoretical and practical study, will give graduates a basic knowledge of theory and methodology of nursing and develop clinical skills for planning and managing the nursing process, develop their ability to adapt to changing needs, lifelong learning and continuous professional development, and as a result, the nurse will be able to conduct independent professional activities. Achievement of this goal will facilitate the implementation of reforms in the health system of the country.
Graduates of the program will be able to be employed in medical facilities and public health organizations. They will also be able to continue their studies in nursing specialization or to obtain master’s, and in the future, Ph.D. degrees

Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge and understanding

  • Know basic theoretical aspects of Nursing;
  • Know of main issues in human anatomy-physiology, biochemistry, pathological physiology, pharmacology, social psychology, therapy, surgery, pediatrics, maternal and infant care, geriatrics, and psychiatry;
  • Know stages of the nursing process (nursing assessment, diagnosing, developing, and implementation of the care plan, assessment of results);
  • Know designation and conduction of nursing manipulations and procedures;
  • Know the basic principles of health maintenance and improvement;
  • Know contemporary medical technologies and methods used in nursing;
  • Know the research principles related to the issues of care:
  • Know the principles of managing complex and problematic/critical (including conflicting) situations;
  • Understand the importance of preventive, diagnostic, treatment-rehabilitation, and palliative measures at the individual and population levels;
  • Understand nurse’s functions and responsibilities in the delivery of health services;
  • Understand relationships between theoretical aspects of nursing;
  • Understand the impact of political and social contexts on the provision of health care;
  • Understand the need to provide the patient with complete, objective, and timely information;
  • Understand the importance of the health team in leading a process.

Skills

  • Apply the „Nursing Assessment“ process;
  • Apply theories in practice:
  • Perform nursing manipulations and procedures;
  • Safely use medications;
  • Keep nursing documentation;
  • Apply relevant medical technologies and methods in the service process
  • Advocate and keep patient confidentiality
  • Retrieve, interpret, analyze data and information and make conclusions for the solution of a specific problem (including ethical) by standard and specific nursing methods during nursing care of the patient;
  • Assess partnership work with patients and their families;
  • Determine the impact of the health system and policy on the nactivities;
  • Assess the factors affecting individual and population health using situational analysis;
  • Analyze the situations associated with various ethical and medical care issues
  • Assess the health status of individuals, populations, including target groups (age, sex, ethnicity, nosological, social status);
  • Keep professional records (report, proposals) to solve problematic issues related to nursing care;

Responsibility and autonomy

  • Present to health care professionals, including medical personnel, information on the health system, including nursing issues in written and orally;
  • Inform and educate both orally and in writing, patients, family members, and general society, including persons with communication disorders;
  • Make a comprehensive assessment of own learning process in the areas of nursing (including therapeutic, surgical, pediatric, geriatric) and determine further learning needs;
  • Understand the importance of protecting the rights of patients and medical staff by taking into account professional, ethical, and legal (both local and international) norms and strive to establish them in practice;
  • Understand the importance of considering the emotional, social, psychological, moral, and physical conditions of the patient and patient’s family to establish an effective nursing practice.

Program Details:

The program includes theoretical and laboratory studies, as well as 90 ECTS clinical practices. Clinical practices are conducted at the medical facilities of various profiles by the clinical practice mentors. Laboratory and practical groups do not exceed 15 students. For evaluation of professional skills at the simulation and clinical environment are used the structured evaluation systems.
